Cover of book / zine Jumping Bean Jumping Bean was made from transparent photocopy material overlaying paper

Jumping Bean Jumping Bean was an A5 book / zine made with the use of a digital mono-chromatic photocopier and consisted of my own pen drawings, C41 and Polaroid SX-70 photographs made between the years 1992 and 1995. Text was made with the use of a word processor, also a first time for me, cut up and arranged as collage with accompanying images and drawings. The photo on page one was shot inside the NGV (National Galley of Victoria) foyer and Great Space ceiling. My book included chapter one: Ring Finger of a sci-fi narrative  titled Cannibal Jungle. This story was based entirely from a dream, no follow up chapter(s) were ever written.

Most visual material inside the book was made while living in an Amsterdam squatted school building in 1994 or en route via India and shortly after my return to Melbourne later that year.  The drawing titled Riding On Black Cat In Amsterdam, page 7, was based from true Melbourne characters as following: the iconic 1m high "red" cat figurine in Fitzroy's original Black Cat Cafe (c1982 - 1996), the resident cat named Spotty (he had a one eyed brother named Crypto), the woman with black hair who once ordered 3 lattes for herself and local / homeless resident Debbie with cigarette and in medicated state circa 1990. She still does the streets of Melbourne today - 2012!  While the B/W photo of the apartment houses on Page 6 was shot in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin and the door on page 2 was that to Fribourg's Passage Interdit at bit like Fitzroy's Black Cat Cafe. The two Polaroid SX-70 images are of old floor tiles at the Fitzroy cafe and were featured in my first seminal work "at the Post Approx Cafe" published in 1993.
